LOS ANGELES – Ed Buck, the California Democratic megadonor, was arrested Tuesday and charged with operating a drug house after a third man reportedly suffered an overdose inside his West Hollywood home last week and survived.

QUICK TAKE

Ed Buck, a prominent Democrat, party donor, and gay activist was arrested. He was charged with battery and running a drug house in L.A. This isn’t Buck’s first brush with the law, however. Why hasn’t the L.A. County district attorney brought down the hammer before on Buck?

The charges against Buck are more than battery and operating a drug house. The particulars are plain lurid.

From the Fox News report:

Prosecutors wrote in court papers obtained by the Times that Buck used his position of power to manipulate his victims into participating in his sexual fetishes.

“These fetishes include supplying and personally administering dangerously large doses of narcotics to his victims,” the prosecutors wrote, according to the [Los Angeles] Times.

There’s no revelation here about Buck. He’s committed this crime before – and gotten away with it. Buck preys on black males – endangering or ending their lives – to satisfy his depraved sexual appetite.

Buck has been on the political scene in L.A. for years. He’s a familiar figure. He’s hobnobbed with the likes of Hillary Clinton. Per the HuffPost:

Buck, 65, has donated tens of thousands of dollars to California candidates, including Gov. Gavin Newsom, and is well known in LGBTQ political circles.

Buck’s ghoulish tendencies couldn’t possibly have been a secret. Did people in Democratic Party circles and the gay community go to authorities previously to report Buck? If not, why not? If so, why weren’t they heeded? To what extent did Buck’s political connections and muscle insulate him from scrutiny and legal jeopardy?

The same can be said about Jeffrey Epstein, another big Democrat donor. Epstein committed suicide under suspicious circumstances while jailed. Epstein used his fortune to have sex with a long parade of under-aged females. Epstein was as connected as Buck in Democrat circles.

From an October 9, 2016 New York Post report:

Epstein has spent the bulk of his adult life cultivating relationships with the world’s most powerful men. Flight logs show that from 2001 to 2003, Bill Clinton flew on Epstein’s private plane, dubbed “The Lolita Express” by the press, 26 times. After Epstein’s arrest in July 2006, federal tax records show Epstein donated $25,000 to the Clinton Foundation that year.

The Harvey Weinstein scandal is well known now. Weinstein was a world-class sexual predator. He spent lavishly on the Democratic Party and its candidates. He didn’t do so to be a good citizen. He did so to buy influence – and protection.

The question lingers in the Weinstein and Epstein affairs – as it does with Ed Buck: To what extent did political connections and muscle play in delaying justice for these men?

The victims and their families certainly care to know.
