Philly, ICE, and Out of Control Cop Hate

You can’t make this up. Six cops were wounded in a shootout with a bad dude in the Nicetown-Tioga neighborhood in Philly. Looks like Nicetown has some really mean streets. Locals turned against cops there, too. Cop hate is growing worse by the day. Beat cops in America’s gritty cities aren’t the only ones at risk, though.

Thank heavens the officers weren’t seriously wounded. All have been released from the hospital. But insult was added to their injuries. Per a Fox News report:

Onlookers were seen taunting and throwing things at Philadelphia police Wednesday night amid a wild shootout and subsequent standoff that saw six cops wounded, and video posted online shows one woman shoving a police officer making his way to the scene.

Nicetown is mostly black. Black Lives Matter, Democrats, and the MSM can’t easily cry “racism” for stoking the cop hate. Why? Black cops were shot. The Philly police commissioner is black. The narrative isn’t ripe for exploitation.

Locals were emboldened, though. A tacit rationale – fueled by BLM and Democrats – is at work. Some locals felt justified striking out at cops. Cops in a gun battle with an armed assailant. Gutsy officers, mind you, who put their lives on the line to protect the community.

Nicetowns are popping up in cities across America. Last week, cops were doused with water in Harlem. Sure, there have always been tough neighborhoods. But are they becoming no-go zones for law enforcement? Laws won’t work without citizen support. Cops are outnumbered when locals turn against them. Cop hate is bursting restraints. If not stopped, Nicetowns may more closely resemble little Beiruts.

But cop hate is fueling more than urban violence. This from the Washington Times:

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Tuesday blamed the “disturbing public discourse” surrounding the Trump administration’s detention policies after shots were fired into an ICE office overnight Tuesday in San Antonio.

What allowed a gunman to take potshots at an ICE office? A “disturbing public discourse” is too nice. In fact, Democrats and the left, incessantly hammering ICE in the most inflammatory terms, are culprits. Joy Behar and others in the media tarring ICE agents as “Nazis” make matters worse.

We’re a nation of laws. A civilized society needs cops enforcing laws – in cities and on the borders. If cop hate doesn’t stop, we’ll decline into an uncivilized society. Who in his right mind wants that?
