“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words, yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering, people are dying, entire ecosystems are collapsing.

“We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is the money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!”

— Greta Thunberg, Yahoo! News, September 23, 2019

QUICK TAKE

Climate change zealots have a new scam. It involves a Swedish teenager. A girl named Greta Thunberg. Heretofore unknown to most humanity. Greta was charged with giving a – stagey – performance at the U.N. Greta’s role was the Child Prophet of Doom. What we have, in the person of Greta Thunberg, is another exhibit of the cynicism and nuttiness that drives the climate change movement.

Not only did Greta overact, but whoever wrote her dialogue should be fired. The words tripping from Greta’s lips were pure melodrama.

“People are suffering, people are dying,” she intoned gravely. “…entire ecosystems are collapsing.” “We are in the beginning of a mass extinction” … Then Greta dropped the hammer, railing against world (or was it venial Western) leaders for being preoccupied with money and the “fairy tales of eternal economic growth.” Cue the tears?

Not incidentally, Greta comes from a theatrical family. This from heavy., September 24, 2019:

Thunberg’s family has a long lineage of theatric pursuits. Her father, mother, and sister are all involved in theatre in some way or another. Even her grandfather, Olof, was a famous director and actor.

The Thunbergs wrote and published a book. It’s about their fears for a “planet in crisis.” Greta, who occupied the biggest stage in her family’s version of the von Trapps, doubtlessly boosted book sales with her tirade. The world may be coming to an end, but you still need, oh, some preoccupation with money in the meantime.

Using this lass to pimp a book and scare witless folk into believing that the world is on the brink verges on child abuse. Such are the scruples of climate change true believers today.

Advocates of global environmental disaster have grown shriller, more strident, and ever more urgently gloomy and doomy. They have support on college campuses, which are sumps of extremist “progressive” dogmas. They have the bored, supposedly better educated, coastal affluent in their corner. But most sensible Americans are tuning out the lunacy. The zealots’ frustrations are shooting holes in the Ozone Layer.

AOC couldn’t gain traction with her goofy prediction that the world will end in a dozen years. Well, it’ll end unless we resort to the most draconian measures to primitivize economies – fast. Beto O’Rourke upped the ante. Said he, the world would end in a decade. Close factories! Scrap vehicles! No more fossil fuel! Paradise is continents full of solar panel and windmill farms!

Their zany quasi-religious prophecies are just that: quasi-religious. Climate change (note they no longer append “manmade”) has become religious in its contours. It requires belief. There’s less of a nod toward science. It has a dogma. Nonbelievers are “climate deniers.” Their prophets shake fists while running amok shouting that the end is at hand, so damn well repent!

This is the consequence of godlessness… of replacing God with the conceit that humans are more powerful and consequential in nature than is true. On Planet Earth, we’re ants at nature’s picnic. The zealots’ puffed up egos and pride can’t permit humanity’s factual smallness.

Anyone with a passing knowledge of the bible knows what laid low Satan and his legions. Pride, conceit. The creatures fancied themselves greater than the Creator. Some similar fate awaits climate change zealots… some Wagnerian crash and burn. When it comes, let’s hope the innocent are spared.
