A friend from Terre Haute assures me there is a headstone in town with the inscription “Here lies a Democrat, a father, and an honest man.” His question was why they put three people in the same grave?

A friend in Louisiana used to say voters there didn’t expect their politicians to be corrupt, they demanded it.

NEWSFEED WEEKEND: Pelosi, Buttigieg Have Appointed Themselves God’s Agents

Oh, I can hear your reply before you even open your mouth, Mr. Buttigieg. It is as predictable as the sunrise. “You’re missing the point” you say. “This is not about sex. It is about marriage.” Well, aside from the transparent incongruity of this claim, let’s cut to the chase and close with this: What gives you the right to redefine a sacrament of the church? You don’t get to make up your own Christianity. You also don’t get to make up your own Jesus, and in case you missed it, He is explicitly clear on His definition of marriage: “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”

Everett Piper, Washington Times, April 14, 2020

Pelosi, D-Calif., who is Catholic, said in an appearance that day on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that church leaders for centuries had not been able to agree on when life begins. [snip]

Here we may reign secure, and in my choyce

To reign is worth ambition though in Hell:

Better to reign in Hell, then serve in Heav’n

John Milton, Paradise Lost

THE TAKE

There’s a teaching moment in cynicism available for your kids. It can be seen on ABC News via YouTube. Speaker Nancy Pelosi doesn’t just play a cynic, she is one. So thoroughly a cynic that Pelosi’s thick makeup barely hid the corrosion underneath. The speaker accused President Trump of committing treason – well, practically. That was once a hanging offense.

NEWSFEED THURSDAY: Impeachment: No Passes for Democrats who Hold Trump Districts

J Robert Smith

Ms. Luria [D-VA] and other moderate Democrats backing impeachment are feeling the heat from conservative groups back home, complicating their reelection bids and giving Republicans hope for winning back seats lost in 2018 and retaking the House majority in 2020.

— The Washington Times, October 2, 2019

QUICK TAKE

The mainstream media call them “moderate” or “centrist” Democrats. Nowadays, that means they’re a tad less left wing than other Democrats. These centrists represent districts that Donald Trump won in 2016. There are 31 in all. Six are on record for impeachment. The rest won’t say where they stand. They’re in binds. Their party’s base voters are rabid for impeachment. But Republican and independent voters aren’t. The centrists wish impeachment would disappear.

NEWSFEED WEDNESDAY: Three Critical Reasons for Democrats’ Impeachment Frenzy

All the way back in May, long before the word “whistleblower” became the new “Russia,” Trump told the media, and by extension all of us, that he would have Attorney General Bill Barr look into the birth of the Russia Collusion Hoax by working with three foreign countries: Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and — wait for it, wait for it — Australia.

— John Nolte, Breitbart, October 1, 2019

Why would the Democrats go after President Trump for allegedly threatening to withhold U.S. aid to Ukraine when their proposed 2020 standard-bearer did EXACTLY THE SAME THING — and is on tape admitting it?

— The Washington Times, October 1, 2019

Though Democrats dropped the I-word from their rhetoric near the end of the campaign, Democratic voters’ support for impeaching Trump motivated voter turnout in the 2018 midterms and led to Democratic gains. A June 2018 NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found that 70% of Democratic voters wanted Democrats to retake the House of Representatives so they could hold impeachment hearings.

The actions of the Trump presidency revealed a dishonorable fact of the president’s betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of our national security and betrayal of the integrity of our elections,” Pelosi said.

— Nancy Pelosi, Thomas Reuters News Foundation, September 24, 2019

“It strikes me that the Speaker and the other leaders are under pressure from the left wing of the party and the leftists in their caucus — who are numerous — to move ahead here,” he said.

If Everyone Is Racist, No One Is

One of the most interesting parts of our political system is that there are no rules or requirements regarding how a person can decide how to vote. One is free to vote for the candidate who is taller, more handsome, from their home state, plays tennis, went to A. S. U., or happens to sound the most like their cousin Ed.

A system where people were somehow required to base their decisions on facts and issues would sometimes yield a different result than does ours. But among our freedoms is the freedom to be stupid. We can be uninformed, unintelligent, and unconcerned, and still vote. That is a freedom that millions of people embrace on a quadrennial basis.

We’re coming to you today from the Californian valley that encompasses Indian Wells, Palm Desert (not Palm Dessert), Palm Springs, Coachella, Indio, and more. It’s a beautiful place in its own way. Not green and lush like my native Indiana, but the mountains and palms and thirsty vistas of expansive fairways and greens are impressive.
