Why I Returned to Twitter

By J Robert Smith

In January of 2021, when Twitter brass suspended Donald Trump’s very popular and powerful account, it was the last straw for me.

I’d been on Twitter since the autumn of 2013, as I recall. By July 2020, with a lot of sweat equity, I’d built my account to nearly 16,000 followers. I was adding an estimated 100-200 followers daily during that tumultuous summer. The riots and general lawlessness that Democrats were permitting in the cities they ran were fueling my following. Then there was the contentious presidential race. With frequent posts about the Trump-Biden dustup, my profile was rising and reach spreading. A conservative surging in popularity was always a red flag among Twitter’s woke monitors.

Then, suddenly, my new followers slowed to a trickle. Some days, nothing. Then over the course of the next few weeks, my existing following started to dwindle. I went to a Germany-based platform that determines if your Twitter account is being “shadow-banned,” among other surreptitious means of muzzling members conservatives. My account was being shadow-banned.

Went the reports, Twitter was allegedly purging “bots,” phony accounts. By November 2020, as I recollect, I’d lost about 4,000 followers. Sure, bots have been and are a problem at Twitter. They inflate Twitter’s aggregate count. Twitter’s member volume helps sell advertising and ups pricing.

But purging bots in the middle of a hotly contested election season? Elon Musk questioned Twitter’s price tag in negotiations because, he contended, the platform’s value was inflated by Twitter execs allowing bots to increase its value. Seems a little too coincidently, doesn’t it?

Facebook and Other Social Media Want Governmental Control, Censorship, and Power

By Rob Meyne

Those who value our freedoms, above other political priorities, generally consider speech as the most important of them all. There is good reason for this.

People who are well-informed, open to different points of view, and even exposed to statements that are at times controversial, tend to make good decisions. Many of our founders expressed faith in the people to make choices that keep the country strong, free, and successful, provided they have access to information and can participate in a free and robust debate.

You don’t hear much from Pelosi and Schumer, for example, celebrating free, open discussions. To the contrary. Pelosi criticized the media last week for not gong more to sell and promote the Democratic agenda. Most observers know most of the media is in the tank for leftists, but most Dem leaders aren’t usually bold enough to openly admit it.

We are now witnessing a coordinated attempt by social media, legacy media, and Democratic leaders to set up national censorship and control of social media. More people get their news today from social media than any other source (God help us). The White House has already bragged that they work directly with social media platforms – Twitter, Facebook/Fakebook, You Tube – to censor posts by private individuals and groups.

The supposed “whistleblower” from Facebook is at the center of the effort.

Trump’s Out at Facebook. Let’s Stop Chasing Big Tech Platforms

The Facebook Oversight Board ruled earlier today that former president Donald Trump is gone from its platform – for good, it appears. Throw in Instagram.

The statement released by the Board is a bunch high-minded sounding goop. Read the decision here. Bottom-line: Banishing Trump when he was president was a powerplay. Keeping Trump off Zuckerberg’s platforms is – yes, you guessed it – a powerplay. It’s a powerplay premised on a Big Lie.

The Trials Ahead

During last Friday night’s Twitter purge, if I read it once, I read it dozens of times: posters sense of shock that a mass expulsion was underway. Two of the more common exclamations were: “This is unreal!” and “Unbelievable!” These lamentations came from some notable names, too. I was astonished that people – particularly those who should know better – were astonished. Then in the wee hours of Saturday morning, having witnessed enough virtual carnage, I deactivated my Twitter account, never to resurrect it – short of the miraculous: Jack Dorsey selling his misbegotten enterprise to Donald J. Trump.

Twitter and Facebook Are Now the Biden Campaign

As we have observed, the polls continue to suggest Biden is headed for a big with. Some of the battleground states are close and getting closer. Yet overall Biden still looks strong. The Democratic campaign/mainstream media continues to run interference for Biden by ignoring stories that may help Trump and rarely holding Biden accountable for anything. They ask Biden tough questions at two times: seldom and never.

Emails from Hunter Biden were released this week. They prove that Hunter sold access to his Dad to get huge payments from the Ukrainian company, Burisma, who has testified that they considered the payments to be a Biden bribe. Burisma was under investigation at the time Joe threatened Ukraine with withholding a billion dollars in U. S. aid unless they fired the prosecutor. Which they did. Biden bragged about doing this on camera. Not smart. Joe has said previously that he has never discussed his son’s business with him and that he never met with Burisma officials. Those claims have never been credible. And we now have proof they were lies.

NEWS FEED FRIDAY: Bust Up Big Tech? Not the Democrats’ Way

Big Tech is too big, yet Americans’ access to their internet services are too constrained — so it’s time for a government takeover, Sen. Elizabeth Warren says.

— Washington Times, August 23, 2019

QUICK TAKE

Google, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Amazon, et al, aren’t too big. They’re too biased. Not that that should fuss Democrats and the left, because that bias goes their way. But Democrats still want Big Tech under government’s thumb. Why? Their power hunger is never satisfied.
