Tomorrow, Tuesday, February 9, the U.S. Senate takes up Act II of the farce playing out on Capitol Hill: the removal trial of former president Donald J. Trump. Never mind that Congress can’t remove a past elected or appointed official from an office he doesn’t occupy. Never no-mind that Article 1, Section 3, of the Constitution is explicit about what impeachment entails. Never no-mind that a trial stands simple common sense on its head. DC is its own little inbred world playing by its own toxic rules.
Rand Paul’s astute move a couple of weeks ago, pushing a Senate vote to demonstrate that the totalitarian-trending Democrats lack anything near 67 votes to “remove” Trump from office, proved that a Senate trial was just, well, theater worthy of Stalin’s Russia, Mao’s China, or Adolf’s Deutschland. 45 stalwart Republicans voted nyet, 不,nein, no.
Case closed – but… no. That’s not the way would-be tyrants operate. The Democrat-led cabal wants a show trial, and that venal cynic, Chuck Schumer, along with an able assist from DC lifer and quisling, Mitch McConnell, are pushing this nasty business ahead.
Like Chief Justice John Roberts, who, for a change, is doing the right thing by refusing to participate in the Senate proceedings, Paul and his GOP allies should have boycotted this charade.
So, what do Democrats, along with a very familiar lineup of RINOs, hope to gain from this mockery of our Constitution?
First, they regard the former president as formidable in opposition. They hope to derail his leadership of MAGA. Good luck with that. MAGA is comprised of tens of millions of diehard Trump supporters. They get that charging the president with sedition is a confection of horse manure and bull feathers. But the wannabe totalitarians and their RINO enablers don’t give a hoot about facts and reality. In their vicious, conceited minds, reality is whatever they assert it to be – and you darn well better not gainsay their narrative or else.
In dirtying Trump up – or so they believe – they aim to keep him out of the 2024 presidential sweepstakes. Don’t ever whisper a word of this, but President Trump was cheated out of reelection this past November. Yet, Time Magazine recently crowed that powerful interests colluded to queer the presidential contests in battleground states.
Democrats and their henchmen appreciate the electoral power Trump still holds. Their – vain – hope is that RINOs will reassert their grip on the GOP, and some spineless milquetoast like Mitt Romney will secure the 2024 GOP presidential nomination. Fat chance. Short of chicanery – don’t count that out – RINOs days are numbered. Even if Trump decides not to run for president in 2024, the GOP will be a MAGA party, and Trump – Lord willing – will be a kingmaker.
Of course, the Democrats aren’t just counting on waylaying Trump. They’ve launched a multifront offensive to damage working and middle-class Americans – by destroying not just jobs but the entire conventional energy sector – trample basic rights (free speech and 2nd Amendment rights to bear arms), and, as they’re doing with impeachment, further subvert the Constitution. Oh, and per one of Nancy Pelosi’s initial pieces of legislation, Democrats want to destroy honest elections to cement universal mail-in balloting.
If it all smells like budding totalitarianism, looks like it, and walks like it, it’s because it is. The American Revolution was a war to wrest independence and liberty from a tyrannical king. This fight is about defeating homegrown tyrants who aim to destroy the greatest experiment in freedom in human history.
One last point. What goes around, comes around. Democrats staging this bogus impeachment trial means that a future GOP Congress (or, at least, House) could well bring legitimate charges of sedition against a bevy of Democrats, including Schumer, Maxine Waters, and Kamala Harris. All are on record making comments that condone or encourage violence against conservative members of SCOTUS (Gorsuch and Kavanaugh), President Trump, Republicans generally, and, in the case of Harris, condone Antifa and BLM provoked violence in cities.
These are bad hombres, folks. Defeating this greatest threat ever to our liberties is imperative.
