The actions of the Trump presidency revealed a dishonorable fact of the president’s betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of our national security and betrayal of the integrity of our elections,” Pelosi said.

“It strikes me that the Speaker and the other leaders are under pressure from the left wing of the party and the leftists in their caucus — who are numerous — to move ahead here,” he said.

Democrats are going full Jonestown – politically. Vats of Kool Aid are ready. Hill staffers are mixing in the cyanide this sunny morn. Nancy Pelosi’s announcement of an impeachment inquiry is the trigger. Pursuing a Trump impeachment would lead to an elections debacle next year for
Democrats. It couldn’t happen to a better party. Bring it on.
Pelosi knows that impeaching an honest president on “trumped” up charges is a loser. Trump’s conversation with Ukrainian President Zelensky won’t damn him. But Pelosi’s back is to the wall. She needs to appease her leftist-controlled caucus. If she doesn’t, she could lose her job.
Pelosi is also covering Joe Biden’s rear. Biden is on videotape weirdly bragging how he strong-armed the Ukrainians. Biden wanted them to back off investigating his son, Hunter. Hunter was embroiled in highly questionable business dealings in the Ukraine. Biden’s words on tape are damning, politically and legally. Pelosi is past DEFCON 1 into full counterattack mode.
The speaker is brazenly skipping a House vote to start an inquiry. She’s supposed to call one. But that would put 31 House centrist Democrats at risk. She doesn’t want them on record for an inquiry. They were elected in districts that Trump carried in 2016. The districts are competitive. If voters believe Trump is being screwed, voter backlash looms.
Democrats and assorted Trump haters have lusted to impeach Trump since he was elected. They concocted the Russia collusion hoax persuaded it was the silver bullet. It turned out to be a blank.
Democrats – a collection of conceited, small-minded pols – can’t get over that Hillary lost to Trump. The skids had been greased for her. That’s Hillary, one of the biggest dud candidates in U.S. history. Worse, Trump is reversing what Democrats believed inevitable. The relentless march of progressive tyranny has been halted. Democrats are panicking that socializing America isn’t inevitable, after all.
Compounding the risky politics of impeachment: House Democrats have no tangible accomplishments to show voters. Trump has consistently reached out to Pelosi, offering to work with her on big issues. Pharmaceutical drug costs and infrastructure improvements, for example. But Democrats, blinded by Trump hate, don’t want any credit to accrue to Trump. Border security? Americans support a wall. Democrats don’t. Illegals are future constituents and voters. So, no deal.
The president will release the transcript of his conversation with Zelensky today. The whistleblower’s complaint will be released next week. The complaint appears to be politically motivated. The conversation transcript will reveal no violations of law.
What then for Democrats? They’ll find – again – that poking Trump with a stick is like poking a lion. They’ll have done so at their peril. Trump is the master politician that Democrat lifers dream to be. Trump will tirelessly hammer Democrats for their venality, deceit, and destructive obsessiveness. Independent voters are apt to side with the president.
2020 is shaping up to be a Jonestown moment for Democrats. Karma is a bitch. Ain’t that grand?
