To Preserve Liberty & Freedom,
Save Small Businesses

Those who value freedom above everything but faith – and even practicing our faith requires us to be free – recognize we are at a crossroads. The current administration embraced a political platform in 2020 that is, hands down, the most anti-freedom, extreme document of its kind in U. S. history.

There is a correlation between the size, power, and role of government and the amount of personal freedom we have. The relationship is direct, clear, and inverse. A nation that is more leftist is less free. A country with a more powerful government has less freedom. A nation that is more conservative, with a smaller government, is freer. “Democratic Socialism,” like “Free Slavery,” is a contradiction in terms. There is no such thing. It is that simple.

It has been said, in these pages and elsewhere, that conservatives win arguments by telling the truth, while liberals win by concealing it.

No one claiming to have a monopoly on veracity should be taken seriously. Most folks, from all political stripes, lie easily and often. As we used to say about Bubba Clinton, “If his lips are moving, he is lying.”

If It Weren’t for Double Standards, Democratic Leadership Would Have No Standards At All

One of the advantages of being a leftist/Democratic leader/Democratic socialist in today’s political environment is you are almost never held accountable. Your own supporters, party leaders, grassroots base, and most of the mainstream media never call you out for hypocrisy, changing positions on a moment’s notice, or lying.

Last week, VP Harris had a discussion on women’s empowerment with Bill Clinton. If not completely immune to widespread media criticism, they would have been vilified for this.

What are the most significant events of “our lifetimes?” For the sake of discussion, let’s say post-Viet Nam. What would you consider the most impactful historical development in that time period?

You could make a good argument that it is 911. That led to a temporary spirit of unity in the nation and to a subsequent focus on terrorism. But as significant as that was, I think the long-term effects of the pandemic are even more impactful.

Narcissists on Parade

A friend from Terre Haute assures me there is a headstone in town with the inscription “Here lies a Democrat, a father, and an honest man.” His question was why they put three people in the same grave?

A friend in Louisiana used to say voters there didn’t expect their politicians to be corrupt, they demanded it.

Preserving American Liberty – Step One – Free Speech

If there is a single foundational principle that most clearly separates America from other nations, it is freedom of speech. No right is more fundamental to our way of life.

Yet that right is directly under attack. Journalists, politicians, corporate, and civic leaders openly advocate censorship by government and corporate interests. Political correctness, groupthink, and intolerance have sparked a new era of speech suppression that marginalizes those with diverse views, promotes intolerance, and advocates retribution against those with whom they disagree.

What Can We Do to Preserve Freedom?

If you are a constitutional conservative – or just a patriot who places a high value on freedom – you already know 2021 is not off to a great start. It is not surprising that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are governing as extreme leftists. That is what they promised to do, notwithstanding the pearl clutching and admonitions that “Lunch Bucket Joe” is really a moderate. We should have taken the hint when Biden and Bernie Sanders, who is an avowed socialist, were able to come up together on a party platform they both support.

Biden Intent on Proving Critics Right

How much support do you think a presidential candidate would gain if they made the following pledge? “On day one of my Administration, I will sign executive orders to increase the price of gasoline, instantly destroy tens of thousands of jobs, increase our dependence on foreign energy, and devastate the economies of at least a dozen states.”

Right. No one would say that. If he told his advisors he wanted to make such an announcement, they would pull him off the campaign trail (or, in the case of Joe Biden, leave him in his basement but lock the doors) and advise him to shut up and get some sleep.

Do You Respect Sausage or the Law? Then We’ve Got Bad News for You

One of the oldest sayings regarding politics is this: If you have any respect for sausage, or the law, you should never watch either being made.

That comes to mind in the wake legislation providing Covid “relief” to the American people. If you can watch this fecal festival without screaming or throwing things against the wall, you’re bereft of standards or simply just don’t care.

To paraphrase William F. Buckley, I would rather be governed by the first 535 names in the Terre Haute, Indiana, phone book than by the U. S. Congress. It would be a step up.
