Some Democratic Options for the Next Election

By Rob Meyne

Anyone who spent the 2020 campaign warning people that Biden would be a disaster as president is already tired of telling people “I told you so.” In fact, anyone who is conservative, supports individual freedom, or voted for Donald Trump has already had numerous opportunities to point out we were right.

Biden was part of the broader Democratic Party effort to move the nation as far left as possible, as quickly as possible. Biden pretended to be a moderate when it suited his near-term goals, but his actions (or those by whoever is running the country) have shown he is serious, as he has promised, about being the most progressive/leftist/politically correct/liberal president ever.

Democratic leadership is so inflexibly committed to pushing their extreme agenda that even the possibility of a bad year at the polls does not seem to dissuade them. Most surveys indicate Biden’s party will be beaten like a rented mule this November. And in 2024, depending on who they offer up.

There is a lot of time left, and the GOP has proven it is capable of snatching defeat from the jaws of certain victory. But as of today, things look grim for team Pelosi/AOC/Omar.

Which brings us to speculation. Continue reading

Are Democrats Plotting to Get Rid of Biden?

By Rob Meyne

If you value freedom over other political values, the identity of the opposition is no longer debatable: it is the Democratic leadership in Washington. Whatever party allegiance you claim — Democrat, Republican, Trade Unionist, or Rotarian Vegetarian Romanian -– you cannot be satisfied with the Party that is in control. They are singularly dedicated to increasing the size and power of government at the expense of your own.
Team Biden’s staff, supporters, appointees, consiglieres, and enablers in the media have pushed the most extreme radical policies ever undertaken by a new administration. After claiming in the campaign to be a moderate, Biden has said his goal is to have the most “progressive” presidency ever. His actions bely any claim to moderation.

Fortunately for America, there is always another election coming up. The political playing field for 2022 is full of challenges for the Democratic majority. We’ll be discussing these issues in the days to come. But first, some caveats.

Some electoral predictions being tossed around are ridiculously optimistic. Republicans need only five seats to take control and it looks like it will be a good year. But the math just doesn’t leave room for the GOP to win anything like 50 seats. It can’t happen.

When Something Actually IS Marxist, It Is OK to Call It That

By Rob Meyne

Opponents of CRT don’t need to mislead people or misrepresent it. When the truth is this damaging, you don’t need to make things up.

The accurate history of Critical Race Theory is so controversial that its supporters often aren’t even aware of it. Many others are aware but try to hide it. If the tenets of CRT sound suspiciously Marxist, it’s for a good reason: it is. We don’t mean Marxist in a general sense; we mean Marxist in that, literally, CRT is an outgrowth of Marxist teachings.

When you say a policy is Marxist, some people immediately disregard the comment. They’ve heard the charge so often they assume it’s false or hyperbole. That is kind of a problem since some of the policies promoted by the Democratic Party and its apparatchiks actually are Marxist. CRT is an example.

Forgive a bit of fairly dry, but hugely important, history. CRT was developed by Marxist activists well-versed in their preferred political theory. So are some other movements.

Black Lives Matter was founded by self-described “trained Marxists.” BLM is a great phrase and a terrible organization. And, yes, it is committed to eliminating capitalism, undermining the family, and destroying many of our institutions. The woke corporations who have thrown money at BLM mostly don’t even have a clue who they are supporting, where the money goes, or who BLM leaders are. See here: Black Lives Matter co-founder describes herself as ‘trained Marxist’

CRT is an outgrowth of Marxist Critical Theory, a product of the Frankfurt School of Marxism. CRT was developed as a strategy to change the economic systems of nations, ensure economic equality, and replace class structures. There is a good piece in the American Spectator that discusses the Marxist origins of Critical Theory. It also notes that many contemporary online entries on CRT have been completely scrubbed of any references to Marxism. Wikipedia, for example, doesn’t mention Marxism except in a few footnotes. Biden Would Rather Fund Terrorism & Foreign Wars Than Use Domestic Oil

By Rob Meyne

When does it make sense to not solve a problem that is harming the nation, even though there is a solution readily available? Is it ever a good choice to let the nation suffer because you would prefer a solution that doesn’t yet exist?

Imagine: Your doctor says you have a serious illness, there are effective drugs available to cure it, but he won’t give you one because there may be better treatments available in the future. There is a cure, but he won’t give it to you.

Would you be happy with your doctor? Right. You’d be outraged. But that is precisely what Biden is telling us to do with oil. We do not yet have the capacity to meet our energy needs through renewable, green energy. But Biden would rather let our economy, security, and personal lives suffer than use the abundant fossil fuels we have in our own country.

Leftists Don’t Want Diversity of Opinion on Ukraine

By Rob Meyne

  • March 3, 2022
  • 5-min read

The Russian invasion of Ukraine offers a window into how American political discourse has changed. The Biden Administration, and their media sycophants, declare anyone who even wants to discuss possible American actions to be Putin allies. They attempt to demonize anyone who does not blindly embrace whatever Biden wants to do.

I’m old enough to remember a day when Americans valued, even celebrated, robust exchanges of ideas. Those days have gone the way of the carrier pigeon. If you suggest we should hesitate to get deeply involved in a conflict that could start World War III, it is assumed you have borscht for lunch, get paid in rubles, and text Vlad hourly.

How often does Biden or another national Democratic Party leader call for more rigorous, open, diverse, and inclusive opinions? Almost never. The left likes to assign everyone to groups and then dismiss them accordingly. You’re white and oppose CRT? You must be racist. You heard that on Fox? It has to be a lie. You think we need voter ID? You’re a Trump cultist.

It is all easier than being intelligent and logical.

The tactic is clearly on display regarding the Ukraine. Team Biden is promoting a false narrative that conservatives in general, and GOP leaders specifically, side with Putin. For generations, the GOP stood for a strong military, a commitment to freedom, and a muscular foreign policy. Suddenly, they say Republicans have become commie stooges and any deviation from the Democratic narrative is treasonous. If the stakes weren’t so high, it would be hilarious.

Do You Really Want Socialism?

By Rob Meyne

  • Feb. 21, 2022
  • 4-min read

As we have discussed in this space, most public policy decisions involve a distinct choice between alternatives that either decrease or increase freedom for our citizens. Invariably, expensive national programs that are purported to benefit Americans do so at a high cost of reducing our freedom while increasing the size and power of government..

On a broad scale, the major policies advocated by the more conservative of U. S. political parties, the Republicans, tend to protect our constitutionally guaranteed freedoms. The more leftist of the major parties, the Democrats, generally promote actions that place more power and resources in government, particularly Washington.

There are several prominent Democratic leaders and officeholders who embrace socialism and proudly claim that moniker for themselves. On the GOP side, there are none. You could hold a meeting of Republican Socialists in a phone booth (remember those?) and have room left over for an adult manatee. (In some cases, that animal might be a significant upgrade over the incumbents!)

One can argue about the extent of the ideological differences in the two parties but cannot dispute its existence. The parties are neither as similar, nor as different, as many claim. However, depending on what you value – freedom, for example – you cannot make a coherent argument there is no difference.

CRT: Built On Falsehoods

By Rob Meyne

  • Feb. 3, 2022
  • 2 min read

Critical Race Theory is a controversial topic. If you’ve been hearing from “both sides” of the debate, you might benefit from just looking at what its advocates say about it. As a conservative constitutionalist, I’d recommend you do just that.

Looking at what its supporters say gives you all the information you need to combat it. When the truth is this damaging, you don’t need to make things up.

There is no shortage of information out there about CRT. If you’re looking for a place to start, here is one option. Another piece takes an interesting look at the issue against the background of Glenn Youngkin’s victory in the governor’s race in Virginia. Youngkin won partially because of his opposition to CRT.

It is good to understand that CRT is a strategy with specific goals, not a body of knowledge. It is more about persuading, not facts.

This piece from the Heritage Foundation goes into the key tenets of CRT and touches on some of the activities being undertaken to push back on it. Many explanations of CRT list different concepts, but these are fairly consistent across-the-board:

  • CRT is a way to challenge and reform our government and economy, by viewing it all through the lens of race.
  • CRT asserts that racism is pervasive and unavoidable in America, embedded in our institutions and government. The belief is that our nation, as constituted, cannot combat racism because it is racist.
  • CRT puts a priority on examples and stories about racism conveyed by those who experienced it.
  • CRT proponents believe America has a class system where all white people are part of an oppressive elite, and benefit from white privilege, while all black people are victims and unable to succeed. (The fact that examples of the falsity of these premises are abundant doesn’t seem to discourage them. Nor do CRT advocates ever explain why, if we are so racist, the cohort with the highest average income and arguably greatest success, Asians, is non-white.)

That is a quick summary, and many would challenge some of these generalizations, but the overall message is clear: America is run by racists, through racist institutions, and oppressed groups cannot succeed unless we replace it with a new system.

It should not be hard to understand why parents, and others, have a problem with these theories being promoted in public schools. More to come on the arguments each side makes on CRT.

CRT: Another Bad Idea from Marxism

By Rob Meyne

  • Feb. 2, 2022
  • 4-min read

Critical Race Theory (CRT) may be the most contentious issue in America today. Worst case it is probably second just behind abortion. People who hadn’t heard of CRT five years ago now attend school board meetings to make sure it isn’t taught to their children. Nearly every day, we learn about another venue where it is being promoted, including governmental agencies, non-profits, and corporations.

People who oppose racism in all forms – often constitutional conservatives – object to CRT because its ideas are astonishingly racist and controversial. CRT holds that all white Americans are oppressors, all blacks are victims, and that racism is built into our society, government, and institutions. CRT adherents maintain the worst effects of racism come from that which is embedded into our social structure, rather than from individuals.

Supporters of CRT claim its critics misrepresent it. They claim the real goal of its opponents is to prevent discussion of race and slavery. But even a cursory look at the actual tenets of CRT reveals it to be, unquestionably, despicable, hateful, and racist. It is intended to divide us and promote racist policies with the excuse that they “right previous wrongs.”

The origins of CRT in Marxist Critical Theory have been scrubbed from many social media platforms and search engines. You have to look a little harder to find the connection today than you once did. For more, look at this discussion of the left’s attempts to push back on criticisms of CRT.

If your education in public schools was anything like mine, we learned about slavery, the civil war, and the battle for civil rights. It is possible all of that has been excised from the applicable curricula since my own matriculation in Vigo County, Indiana. But no discussion of our history can avoid the Civil War and slavery, nor should it.

Biden Wants You to Be Afraid

By Rob Meyne

  • Jan. 25, 2022
  • 3-min read

Most of the leading arguments by Washington leftists are only persuasive if you have already accepted a proposition on which they are based. Many of these assumptions are, unfortunately for them, simply not true.

An example is the suggestion that the greatest domestic threat to our nation comes from right-wing activists. It is possible no political party has made more of an effort to persuade Americans of a false narrative. The Biden Administration wants Americans to believe right-wing extremism is the most dangerous and prevalent domestic threat and that January 6 is part of a broader problem.

Leftists think you will not push back on their attempts to squelch free speech, punish their critics, and use the DOJ to pursue their political enemies if you believe there is an existential threat from conservatives. If you are afraid, in other words, you may not focus on the dumpster fire that is Biden’s America.

The DOJ has established an entirely new department to pursue, investigate, and prosecute “extremists,” which they define as people who question government authority or its policies. Got it? If you question government, take issue with its actions, the Biden Administration thinks you are a potentially violent and dangerous terrorist.

SCOTUS Gets One Decision Right

By Rob Meyne

  • Jan. 17, 2022
  • 3-min read

The Supreme Court has, thankfully, affirmed that the federal government does not have the authority to force average citizens to get a vaccine.

The heart of our health care system has always been that people and their doctors have the right, even the duty, to make their private, personal health care decisions based on their unique circumstances. The mandate runs counter to that foundational value.

CDC has recently conceded vaccinations don’t do anything to protect against the newest version of the virus. They say that natural immunity does more to protect us than a vaccine, but still insist you need to be vaccinated, even if you have had it. They also admit that, even if you have had the shots, you can still get it and still pass it on.

Vaccines reportedly help you to get a milder case, when you do get it, but they are not vaccines in the traditional sense. We were told a “lie” that said, if we get the vax, we won’t get COVID, can’t spread it, and can live a normal life. None of that was true.

Anyone who questions vaccine efficacy is in danger of being labeled an anti-vaxxer or conspiracy theorist. Yet, in the past month I have had appointments with three separate doctors. Each of them independently brought up the subject of COVID, said that we had handled the pandemic disastrously, and criticized the vaccines as ineffective and untested. None of the three have gotten the vaccine themselves. All have had COVID, so have natural immunity.
