Harris and Company Lie About Florida and DeSantis

If you watch what they do rather than what they say, the leaders on the left will tell you who they fear most. Recent events suggest that person is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

You don’t hear anyone attacking Asa Hutchison or Nicki Haley, although they would both be improvements over the guy in the White House. (But then again, so would my Cocker Spaniel, Buddy.)

They attack Trump 24/7, of course, and they fear him as well. But there is more in play regarding Trump than just their dislike of him. More on that later.

For now, consider the latest major attack on DeSantis. He is accused of implementing education reforms in Florida that revise history and downplay the severity of the sin of slavery. It is a lie, pure and simple. It is, however, entirely predictable.

When attacks are based on truth, of course, they are fair game. However, when a political cohort must lie about their opponents, repeatedly and boldly, it is an indication of their intellectual and political impotence. If they had a winning message that had the support of clear majorities, they wouldn’t have to lie about the other side.

In Florida, Gov. DeSantis won passage of legislation to minimize the politically correct “woke” aspects of state institutions, primary educational. As part of this effort, a group of scholars and experts on African American history – many of these educators are black, by the way – developed a new set of standards for use in Florida schools. It replaced the curriculum developed by the AP College Board, called “Official course framework, project, and exam overview for AP African American studies.” This is the national document describing what ought to be taught to high-achieving students across the country.

The criticism of the Florida curriculum is based on lies and intended simply to hurt DeSantis and, by extension, other GOPs, and conservatives.

Both the AP College Board and the new Florida guidelines discuss the difficulty that faced former slaves as they adapted to freedom. As many historians have pointed out, some had skills that were useful and helped them find jobs. Some of these skills were developed here, others before they were brought here. That point is undeniable and, again, is in both documents. It does not mean slavery was “good” for anyone.

Yet, DeSantis is attacked and accused of saying slavery was good, even though the same thing is said on page 72 of the College Board AP document. Both curricula made the point about some slaves having useful skills. But they claim Florida is racist when they say it.

If anyone is interested, below is a link to the curriculum Harris, et al, supported. Hypocrisy does not get clearer or more offensive than this.

Two Reasons Why the Red Wave Wasn’t… and What Republicans can do about It

There’s more than a couple of reasons why the expected Red Wave didn’t happen. Here, we’re referring specifically to congressional elections. But there are two reasons that aren’t very sexy but most definitely blunted Republican gains. One is early voting and mail-in balloting.

The second, which pertains to U.S. House contests, is redistricting. Republicans actually won about 6 million more votes in House elections in 2022 than did Democrats. The trouble was that district lines were drawn in such ways that diluted GOP strengths.

Redistricting is mandated by the U.S. Constitution. It isn’t a sexy topic. In fact, it’s sort of wonky, but in redrawing U.S. House district lines in 2021, Republicans were either out maneuvered by Democrats or victims of “redistricting commissions.” That depends on how states decide the every ten years reapportionment of House seats. Democrats were definitely aggressive in New York and New Mexico, drawing lines that lopsidedly favored them. Surprisingly, the New York Supreme Court struck down the Democrats’ grossly gerrymandered map, replacing it with a map that actually allowed Republicans to gain seats. No such thing happened in New Mexico, where Democrats drew lines that cost the GOP the one seat it held.

We can add that the U.S. Census, which was conducted in 2020, undercounted population gains in some red states, while overcounting population in some blue states. That’s more than a little suspicious.

There’s no point into getting deep into the weeds about redistricting. The next round of redistricting happens in 2030, though the U.S. Supreme Court will hear a Civil Rights case about Alabama’s lines being racially discriminatory in early 2023. Nonetheless, the cake is baked.

Dems Put Power over Kids

Politicians love to claim their actions are focused on helping “the children.” If you haven’t heard that claim, you must not be listening. Until the past couple of decades, protecting children from harm was considered a non-debatable objective around which we could all rally. Today? Not so simple.

Places like Alabama, Florida, and Texas lay bare a fundamental difference between modern leftists and conservatives. Both parties claim to care about children. Only one is willing to oppose abortion of full-term babies or set a minimum age for instruction on explicit sexual subjects. Guess which is which?

The parental rights bill in Florida has been criticized for being anti-gay, hateful, and putting at risk the lives of children. None of those criticisms is factual. All the law does is prevent instruction about sexual orientation in third grade or below or in a way that isn’t age appropriate. Got it? Doesn’t sound controversial, does it? Well, it shouldn’t be. But the Dems have become such a wholly owned subsidiary of the far left that there is almost nothing too extreme for them.

If you oppose the new Florida law, it means you support teaching about sexual orientation and related issues to our youngest children. Nothing in the bill prevents a male teacher from telling them he has a husband, or a sister who identifies as a male. Nothing prevents anyone from using the word “gay.” As is often the case, the left has to lie about the actions of conservatives in order to try to defend the indefensible. Democratic leaders can’t even agree there should be a minimum age for instruction about sex.

Springtime for Mask Tyranny

If you live in a red state – Florida, Texas, and Mississippi are on my mind – where your governor has decided that lockdowns (even partial) and mask mandates are pretty much wastes of times, count yourself lucky. If you live in a blue state – oh, say, New York, Pennsylvania, California, New Jersey – with a petty tyrant for governor, an inert or rubber-stamp legislature, and courts controlled by make-the-law-up Democrat judges, you’re still being forced to knuckle under, to one degree or another.

I Know You Are, But What Am I?

Perhaps the least debatable statement one can make about the 2020 campaign is that it is going to be unusual. Duh. In a year characterized by riots, a pandemic, and an invasion of rabid honey badgers, it is almost inevitable the election will be different.

Democratic leaders and their sycophantic cadre of flying monkeys in the media are circulating the message that, whatever happens, they will not concede. The Hildebeast, notably, has said Biden should not concede. The careful reader might notice that the Democrats have been promoting the fear that Trump will not concede, even if he loses, but have no problem doing that very thing. In 2000, the Democrats set the standard for not accepting election results. Al Gore fought until, literally, there were no legal options remaining. The key issue was Florida, where Gore never led a single vote count. Ultimately, fewer than 700 votes in Florida determined the winner. Which reminds us how important it is to make sure there is no fraudulent voting, or inaccurate counts.
