Sunday, join us for a look at U.S. House and Senate races.

Focus: President

Arizona Poll: In the middle of May, OH Predictive Insights (5/9-11; 600 AZ likely general election voters) released their Arizona statewide survey that received considerable attention in the political pundit community due to the Grand Canyon State’s importance in the presidential campaign. With its 11 electoral votes, Arizona is a must-win state for the Trump campaign. The OH poll found former Vice President Biden leading 50-43%, his largest margin to date, but little in the way of analysis accompanied the poll release.

Elections 2020: Trump Leads Early in Pennsylvania?

We continue are weekend series looking at this year’s election contests. Saturday, U.S. House and Senate races. Sunday, governorships.

Focus: President

Rep. Justin Amash: Michigan Rep. Justin Amash (L-Cascade Township/Grand Rapids) decided not to seek the Libertarian Party presidential nomination after filing an exploratory committee to assess his chances. Rep. Amash cited the COVID-19 precautions that make personal campaigning difficult as one reason not to continue along the presidential path. He says he is committed to helping build the national Libertarian Party, however.

Arizona: Regular Arizona pollster OH Predictive Insights (5/9-11; 600 AZ likely voters) finds former Vice President Joe Biden putting some distance between he and President Trump, 50-43%, in what is a must-win state for the Republican incumbent. The poll itself is not yet in the public domain, therefore making it difficult to analyze the nuances.

Hodas Polls: The Hodas & Associates survey research firm went into the field to test the swing Great Lakes/Mid-Atlantic states and produced surprisingly inconsistent data. Conducting surveys among sampling universes of 600 likely general election voters in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin in early May, Hodas finds the results very different than the three close wins Donald Trump recorded in these places four years ago. While former Vice President Joe Biden posts wide leads in Wisconsin (51-42%) and Michigan (50-42%), he surprisingly trails President Trump in Pennsylvania (46-50%).

“What Mini Mike is doing is nothing less than a large scale illegal campaign contribution. He is ‘spreading’ money all over the place, only to have recipients of his cash payments, many former opponents, happily joining or supporting his campaign. Isn’t that called a payoff?” Trump tweeted Tuesday afternoon.

Stop Bloomberg. He’s showing billionaires how to buy the presidency and it’s dangerous.

Why Don’t Democratic Candidates Seem to Like America Much?

It’s astonishing how politically bifurcated we have become. Many people who’ve spent years supporting politicians who are seriously flawed – liars, crooks, hypocrites –have adopted faux outrage over everything done by President Trump. Some Democratic leaders announced before Trump was even inaugurated that they wanted to impeach hm. Their entire agenda, for more than three years, has been driven by a single goal: to get rid of Trump. They put politics ahead of the national good, consistently and reliably. (There are days that I wish Republicans in Congress were as disciplined and committed as the Democrats.)

(CNN)The National Security Council’s top Ukraine expert told House impeachment investigators on Tuesday that he tried to make changes to the White House’s rough transcript of the July phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s President, including that Trump mentioned tapes of former Vice President Joe Biden, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Quit Doing What We’re Doing!

We’ve discussed in these pages that one way to understand Democratic strategies is by looking at the concept of “projection.” Discussed here, projection, although there is a lot more to it, is a process by which people tend to see qualities, both good and bad, in others that may not be accurate and may also be present in themselves. Put another way, the other guy always looks like he is guilty of whatever you are.

You think your kid is being illogical, when maybe you are; you think your wife is irritable, but actually you are; you think Chuck Schumer is an honorable and principled person, but… wait a minute. Bad example. No one ever thinks that.

NEWSFEED TUESDAY: Hillary’s Lead Trial Balloon

In the early morning hours after Election Day 2016, Hillary Clinton conceded gracefully, asking America to “give Trump a chance.” That didn’t last long. Months afterward, she came out swinging against the president. Last week, she called him an “illegitimate president.” On Monday, she claimed he violated his oath of office by pulling U.S. troops back in Syria.

Clinton may just be trying to increase her visibility to sell her latest book, but she may also be positioning herself to enter the 2020 Democratic presidential race if former Vice President Joe Biden falters — or should I say, continues to falter.

NEWSFEED WEEKEND: Democrats’ Path to Defeat in 2020

The gamble of a Biden nomination, then, is a big one. It’s a bet on whether Americans really do want a return to the political establishment when signs here and around the world seem to be pointing in the opposite direction, empowering both far-right strong men and socialists as center-left and center-right parties stumble. Biden’s chances in a general election also hinge whether he can muster support from enough Obama-loyal, reliable primary voters to counteract a lack of enthusiasm among younger and more progressive segments of the electorate, who won’t back him with nearly the same vim as they would Elizabeth Warren or (especially) Bernie Sanders. Did the mythical white working class voters that Biden is supposed to appeal to really just want to vote for another white guy (as cynical pundits have claimed) or did they too want to drain the swamp?

NEWSFEED MONDAY: Democrats Latest: Silence Giuliani, Don’t say ‘Illegal Aliens”

But now, there’s a tough, new, eyebrow-raising law on the books [in New York City].

And it makes calling someone an “illegal alien” in a “hateful” way — well, illegal.

— Lifezette, September 28, 2019

Joe Biden’s presidential campaign is sick of Rudy Giuliani’s television appearances and wants them to stop.

In a letter sent Sunday to top executives, producers and anchors at the broadcast and cable news networks, two key Biden advisors pressed the outlets to stop booking Giuliani, who has appeared frequently in the last few weeks to allege Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, of a pay-for-play in Ukraine.

Can Warren Beat Trump?

Joe Biden’s strongest selling point — that he’s the most likely to beat Donald Trump — is losing some of its edge, as Elizabeth Warren vaults into second place because a growing number of Democrats think she can win the general election.

— Bloomberg

QUICK TAKE

Bloomberg reports that more Democrats are seeing Liz Warren as a comer. She can beat Trump in 2020, they believe. Seems there’s no population limit in the Democrats’ Jonestown. They’ve got a factory churning out the Kool-Aid, folks!
