A War with Russia?
Over the Ukraine?
Good Heavens, Why?

By J. Robert Smith

The Ukraine is in Russia’s crosshairs. Vladimir Putin is massing troops, weapons, and equipment along the Ukrainian border. Putin doesn’t want Ukraine to become part of NATO or align with it in any way. He regards that as a direct threat to Russia.

Democrats, neocons, and military contractors are squawking. “We can’t let Russia invade the Ukraine,” they cry. “We must slap sanctions on Russia, make Putin and his fellow oligarchs feel pain,” they say with blood in their eyes. “And if all else fails, the U.S. needs to intervene militarily. Send troops! Bomb Russia!”

Anyone outside the DC establishment think this is sheer madness? Must we explain why a rush to confrontation and conflict with the Russians is folly?

Proving that the contemporary madness plaguing our society isn’t exclusive to Democrats and the left, Mississippi GOP senator Roger Wicker isn’t ruling out nuclear war over the developing Ukrainian crisis.

Smashing and Grabbing
Blue America into Ruin

By J. Robert Smith

The recent spate of brazen organized store lootings in Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and surroundings aren’t the beginning of societal unraveling in those places, but the latest manifestations. They represent a new stage and an acceleration. It’s no accident that this mayhem is lopsidedly centered in blue strongholds.

Note that these smash-and-grab robberies aren’t confined to poor neighborhoods in big blue cities, but have spread to middle-class and upscale areas — areas frequented or inhabited by the affluent, (mostly) white progressives who have favored defunding police and emptying prisons.

Their virtue-signaling about equity and justice is well and good until they become victims — or, at least, feel threatened. The chickens are coming home to roost throughout blue America, to amend Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s famous dictum.

What Biden’s Nomination of Saule
Omarova to be Comptroller of the Currency Tells Us

By J Robert Smith

Not long ago, who would have believed that an American president would nominate a communist for an important U.S. Treasury job? Not a “I’ve seen the light” repentant communist, like Whittaker Chambers, but a person who must believe that the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union was fake, like the moon landings that tinfoil-hatters swear never happened.

Joe Biden is the president and Saule Omarova is the communist — or communist sympathizer, depending on reports. Then again, Omarova disavows being a Bolshevik. Easier to slip through the confirmation process with a disavowal, possibly. In any event, Omarova isn’t exactly a small government, free-market sort. Her positions are radical. Marxism (aka communism) isn’t a dirty word among Democrats and progressives nowadays.

Rounding out Omarova’s resumé: shoplifting, which is fitting in that communism is a form of organized thievery. Stalin committed crimes, too.

Once upon a time in America, there would have been collective outrage at plucking a communist or fellow traveler for any role in our government. You see, communism is antithetical to a free society. It’s darkness to our light. But in those bygone days, Americans — Republicans and Democrats — were reared to embrace liberty and the core beliefs that made freedom possible. Yes, we had differences, but we shared a culture rooted in traditional values.

What do Nordstrom’s, Louis Vuitton, and Burberry have in Common?

By J Robert Smith

How’s that defunding and hogtying police working out, Democrats? Ask residents in the California Bay Area and Chicago for feedback. Over the weekend, there were a spate of brazen store robberies (more like gang lootings) in the City by the Bay and the Windy City, among other blue state communities.

From the Real Deal, November 22:

Brazen thieves targeted stores in four Bay Area cities, including a Walnut Creek Nordstrom’s, in a three-day spree that forced officials to restrict access to San Francisco’s Union Square.

Crowds looted and vandalized Union Square, San Francisco’s retail center, on Friday night, burglarizing Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Maxford’s Jewelry, and other high-end brands, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. They also hit cannabis dispensaries around the city Friday night, San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott said at a news conference on Saturday.

Better to pillage high-as-a-kite, no doubt.

The Unconscionable Treatment of the January 6 Protesters

By J Robert Smith

The DC jail isn’t Andersonville Prison, but its conditions have been long reputed as wretched.

This from Colbert I. King, The Washington Post, November 6:

The U.S. Marshals Service conducted an unannounced inspection and found evidence of “systemic” mistreatment of detainees, including unsanitary living conditions and the punitive denial of food and water. Inspectors found “large amounts of standing human sewage” in toilets in multiple cells, and cells that had been lacking water for days. Staff members “were observed antagonizing detainees” and “directing detainees not to cooperate.” One inmate was warned by a staffer to “stop snitching.”

The Marshals transferred 400 federal detainees out of the prison as a result of their findings. About 40 January 6 protesters remain confined there, however.

Are Democrats Preparing to Steal the Virginia Governor’s Election?

By J Robert Smith

The latest polling from Fox News shows Republican gubernatorial nominee Glenn Youngkin vaulting to an eight-point lead over former Democrat governor Terry McAuliffe. The margin of error is plus or minus 3%.

A word of caution about the Fox News poll: it could very well be an outlier. Fox News said “irregularities” filled presidential state contests for Biden early on Election Night in 2020. Even if contests in key swing states were on the up and up, the presidential race proved razor thin, and the outcome was really a coin flip.

As reported by Liberty Daily, McAuliffe has made a hire that suggests his campaign expects a close finish with Youngkin. Who was hired speaks volumes.

From J.D. Rucker at the Liberty Daily, October 28:

“It all started when a report broke that McAuliffe was hiring Marc Elias, a Hillary Clinton operative who specializes in stealing elections for Democrats. Paying him $60,000 was bad optics for a campaign that has been fading quickly due to an onslaught of electoral missteps by McAuliffe down the homestretch. Hiring Elias is an admission that the campaign believes they will lose, so when requests for comment started coming in, the campaign panicked.”

McAuliffe has run a slack, gaffe-filled campaign.

Will Democrats’ Ballot Chicanery Torpedo Glenn Youngkin?

J Robert Smith

If the polls are accurate, Republican Glenn Youngkin and Democrat Terry McAuliffe are in a dead heat for Virginia’s governorship. The election is officially on November 2, but with mail-in balloting and early onsite voting, the Commonwealth’s elections are well underway.

Here’s the big question: How honest will the governor’s contest be? Does Youngkin have a fair shot of being elected or will Democrats “tweak” the results?

Virginia is run by Democrats. There’s only one reason for that: Northern Virginia, which is a bedroom community of Washington, D.C. Without “NOVA,” Virginia would be reliably red. NOVA is chockful of federal bureaucrats, government contractors, and all sorts of businesses and services that make money off a big government clientele.

In fact, NOVA includes three of the most affluent counties in the nation: Fairfax, Loudoun, and Arlington. The people in these counties are also predictably, reliably Democrats.

So, statewide elections are settled in populous Northern Virginia. And in Democrat-run Fairfax County, there are now questions about how honest the counting is.

The U.S. is Energy Abundant,
Yet this Winter Will Come
Shortages & Higher Costs

Will the economy go boom?

J Robert Smith

Democrats and the media haven’t yet tried – in any concerted way – to gaslight the fact that as of January 20, 2021 the United States of America was energy independent. Not only that, but the cost of conventional energy was affordable for most consumers. But the Democrats have an agenda: “Save the planet,” they bleat on, like the end-time cult followers and cynics they are. (The cynics are looking to line their pockets off this delusion.)

Lest Democrats shutdown conventional energy production, why, all that mean, old carbon will choke the atmosphere and change earth climate in catastrophic ways. We’re doomed, cry these fools!

Frail Joe Biden’s handlers have miserably failed in most things so far, but have been ultra-successful in squeezing off domestic energy production and spiking costs. In just nine months’ time, they’re striding toward bringing the nation to its knees. The country faces energy shortages this winter – at gas pumps, and with the coal, oil, and natural gas necessary to heat homes and places of business. As costs climb, family budgets are stretched. A breaking point will come.

Gosh, you have to grudgingly admit that’s quite a feat by Biden’s corrupt establishment string-pullers and the leftists who the stringer-pullers grovel to – lest the Democrats’ fragile governing coalition explode to smithereens.

Considering a National Divorce

J Robert Smith

This past week at American Thinker, both William Sullivan (another longtime regular contributor) and I addressed the idea of a national divorce; meaning, red and blue America separating. Sullivan’s article can be found here. Mine is here.

The differences between left and right in America are stark and, regrettably, growing starker. Some conservatives have floated the idea that a national divorce might be achieved civilly, if not amicably. In my American Thinker analysis, I argued that a civil separation isn’t likely to occur because of the nature and worldview of the American left. The American left isn’t led by the equivalent of Swedish social democrats who merely want to expand the welfare state and who are agreeable to living and let live … and who may gladly part company amicably if that was best for all concerned.

I argue that the left has no intention of dissolving the U.S. peaceful and fairly. That runs contrary to their explicit aims. Here’s the nub of the matter from my piece:

Fascism at the Tip of a Needle

J Robert Smith

  • Sept. 11, 2021

When Joe Biden and liars generally say, “This isn’t about (fill in the blank),” it’s invariably about the very thing they claim it isn’t about. Case in point, Biden’s assertion that his dictum mandating vaccinations for federal workers, federal contractors, and private enterprises with a hundred or more employees “is not about freedom and personal choice.”

We need to thank our marionette president for flagging the truth with his disclaimer. Forcing vaccinations on an estimated 80 million citizens through executive fiat is very much about robbing them of their ability to decide what’s best for their health. Doing so by compelling larger businesses to make employees vaccinate (or lose their jobs) is, well, the stuff of creeping fascism, which Ronald Reagan famously warned would come in the guise of liberalism if it came to the U.S.
