Do You Value Freedom More than Security? Vote Republican.

No issue in memory reveals more clearly how differently two extremes of the political spectrum react to things. There are a number of assumptions/generalizations made about people, mostly conservatives, who don’t like things like mask mandates. As is often the case, I don’t think our opposition understands us. So here are a few generalizations that the left/progressives/socialists/mainstream media make about “us,” and thoughts on how many of us actually think. Not all of this applies to everyone, of course, but it is a start.

What they say, vs. what we think.

If You Don’t Wear A Mask, You Must Hate People

It’s human nature to think that whatever we are going through right now is the worst, most extreme, most memorable event of its kind. Ever. Sometimes it is true. Our tendency to exaggerate notwithstanding, I am confident that future historians will look at the COVID pandemic as one of the seminal issues of our lifetimes. It is at least as important as 911 and Viet Nam.

In 2020 we set a new standard for how we would react to a serious health crisis. We made a collective decision – or more accurately a few dozen governors, scientists, and regulators made it for us – that it is worth trashing our entire economy, driving millions of businesses into bankruptcy, and putting non-COVID health matters at the back of the line in order to potentially save some lives. Previously, it had not occurred to us that we should just shut things down. The downside was too great. Now it is precedent.

I Know You Are, But What Am I?

Perhaps the least debatable statement one can make about the 2020 campaign is that it is going to be unusual. Duh. In a year characterized by riots, a pandemic, and an invasion of rabid honey badgers, it is almost inevitable the election will be different.

Democratic leaders and their sycophantic cadre of flying monkeys in the media are circulating the message that, whatever happens, they will not concede. The Hildebeast, notably, has said Biden should not concede. The careful reader might notice that the Democrats have been promoting the fear that Trump will not concede, even if he loses, but have no problem doing that very thing. In 2000, the Democrats set the standard for not accepting election results. Al Gore fought until, literally, there were no legal options remaining. The key issue was Florida, where Gore never led a single vote count. Ultimately, fewer than 700 votes in Florida determined the winner. Which reminds us how important it is to make sure there is no fraudulent voting, or inaccurate counts.

Remember TEOTWAWKI? It is here.

TEOTWAWKI

Does that acronym ring any bells? I heard it widely when the year 2000 was approaching. There were questions and discussions and conspiracy theories – not entirely without basis – about horrible that might arise when the century/millennium rolled over. As a result of glitches built into computer operating systems (all of which were designed by people with a chip on their shoulders, because no one talked to them in high school), it was not clear what would happen when all the dates rolled from the 1900s to the 2000s.

If Biden Wins, Who Will Be President?

The media and pollsters keep telling us there is no chance President Trump will win re-election. It is helpful to remember these are the same people who said he wouldn’t run, couldn’t get the nomination, couldn’t win, and couldn’t govern. All of those predictions were wrong, of course, but the narrative today is that Biden has this locked up.

A few days ago, we looked at some of the wild cards/factors that may affect the course of the race. Among them was the key point that Biden will probably find a way not to debate. We still hang with that prediction. But let’s offer some additional curves we may be thrown:

Dems Object to Racism Only When It Benefits Them

Although many voters would like to have more palatable choices November 3, we know how the field for this contest will be striped. But there are interesting wild cards that could make an already unpleasant year even worse. Or better. Let’s look at a few today, with more to come.

– Biden is weak and not up to the task. The campaign is following a “less is more” strategy. If he could hide in his basement for four more months, not even exiting long enough to see his shadow, they’d consider it ideal. The more voters learn about Biden the less they like him. Former VA Governor Terry MacAuliffe, one of the Clinton’s leading bag men, discussed it in a call with supporters.

Biden Looks Moderate Only Next to the Clown Car of Candidates He Ran Against

The Democratic Party has, indisputably, grown more liberal/socialist over the few years. Surveys have shown that 75% of Democratic voters would vote for a socialist. Today, a fair number of Democratic Party leaders are acknowledged socialists, support socialist policies, or try to put a different spin on things by claiming to be “Democratic” Socialists.

That, of course, is a contradiction in terms. Being a Democratic Socialist makes as much sense as saying you support free slavery or non-lethal capital punishment. Socialism, by definition, reduces freedom. That’s the point, and many Democrats are now openly comfortable with it.

Elections 2020: It’s Critical … We’re Keeping You Informed

At Flyover-Patriots.com, our mission is to encourage constructive commentary about political issues, elected officials, and the campaign environment. We do so from a conservative perspective and make no apologies for it! But we welcome thoughts from all political mindsets, providing they are factually accurate and well-intentioned. If you just want to call people names, go on MSNBC or see if you can fill in for Don Lemon! Our number one objective is to post commentary that’s interesting and, hopefully, a bit provocative. However, there is also a paucity of reliable information about individual campaigns. In particular, the dearth of solid survey information for House and Senate races can create perceptions that are very misleading. It is easy to create a “bad” poll by manipulating the sample and phrasing questions in order to get the response you want. Then, the headlines often don’t reflect the story itself.

If Gov. Whitmer Had Been President During WW II, You’d Be Reading This in German

Rant warning! But, hey, I know you’ve got time to read! :

I’m apparently, part of a small minority that’s outraged at how much our government has restricted our freedom. Most people have accepted it with the timidity of a newborn puppy. If these folks had been making decisions in WWII, we’d be having this discussion in German and you wouldn’t have a single living Jewish friend or relative.

The pandemic is a very complex problem that we simply can’t solve quickly. Predictably, people make mistakes, experts disagree with each other, leaders change their minds here and there, people hear conflicting messages, and recommendations change the more we learn.

If We Can Save Even One Life, Maybe We Shouldn’t

Rob Meyne

Imagine you could time travel back just three months. You’re watching your local news and the reporter says “The governor today issued orders banning church services, golf, eating at restaurants, or assembling in groups of ten or more.” If you value freedom as much as you should, you would have been stopped in your tracks, amazed, rattled, scared, and absolutely certain you heard this wrong. “No,” you would say, “Surely I can’t actually have just heard that church services have been banned. That not only makes no sense, the First Amendment actually guarantees freedom of religion.” You would be right to be outraged. Today, we hear such things daily, and don’t bat an eyelash. Why? Because we’ve been conned into thinking our health is the only thing that matters. Whatever we do to stay safe, we should. Period.
