NEWSFEED WEEKEND: Why is Trump Accuser, Yovanovitch, above Scrutiny & Criticism?

Trump took to Twitter on Friday morning to claim that “everywhere” U.S. Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch went “turned bad” and suggested she was to blame for the situation in Somalia, where she did her first tour. Yovanovitch was asked to react to the tweets during the hearing on Friday which was being carried live on air, and described them as “intimidating.”

The president’s tweet ran counter to a desire by Republicans to avoid attacking the character of career public servants like Yovanovitch, who boasts decades of service in the diplomatic corps in both Republican and Democratic administrations.

NEWSFEED THURSDAY: The Bland Stalinist Evil of the Impeachment Hearings

J Robert Smith

The burden of proof is on Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam B. Schiff (D-Burbank) to do more than secure impeachment, which is all but certain. Their job is to conduct these hearings in a way that moves public opinion to the point that the Senate will convict the president. That means giving Republican senators something that changes their impression of Trump’s conduct of Ukraine foreign policy. What’s alleged may make many members of the GOP uncomfortable, but it doesn’t come remotely close to requiring that the president be removed from office. [bold added]

Evil, however, proves to be clever. It is charming, and sometimes handsome and even eager to please. It loves opera and literature. Small children are happily dandled on its knee.

Mark Zaid, one of the attorneys representing the intelligence community whistleblower at the center of the Democrats’ ongoing impeachment inquiry, tweeted conspicuously in January 2017 that a “coup has started” and that “impeachment will follow ultimately.”

Then, in July 2017, Zaid remarked, “I predict @CNN will play a key role in @realDonaldTrump not finishing out his full term as president.” Also that month, Zaid tweeted, “We will get rid of him, and this country is strong enough to survive even him and his supporters.”

Fox News, November 7, 2019

THE TAKE

How brazen the conspirators against Donald Trump. Among the establishment, Democratic Party, and mainstream media, that is. Mark Zaid, who’s part of the whistleblower’s legal team, is fully revealing. Destroying Donald Trump has been the game plan since Trump was elected. January 2017 was when the evil began.

(CNN)The National Security Council’s top Ukraine expert told House impeachment investigators on Tuesday that he tried to make changes to the White House’s rough transcript of the July phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s President, including that Trump mentioned tapes of former Vice President Joe Biden, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The partisan Washington Nationals crowd was not pleased when President Trump was shown on the ballpark’s video screen during Game 5 of the World Series between the hometown Nationals and visiting Houston Astros, as fans greeted him with a crescendo of boos in the third inning of the ballgame.

In addition, fans mockingly yelled “lock him up,” a chant Trump supporters began in 2016 against his opponent, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

If there’s a sentient creature who doesn’t realize how one-sided are the mainstream media, the reactions to the recent report from the State Department on Hillary’s email wrongdoings provides all the proof you need. Many outlets, such as the Washington Post, said that it “clears” her. Well, no. The report does nothing of the sort.

President Trump announced Wednesday that conditions have been met between Turkey and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) for what he called a “permanent ceasefire” between the two sides and that the United States is lifting sanctions on Ankara that were implemented following the invasion of northern Syria.

— Fox News, October 23, 2019

QUICK TAKE

It was carrots and sticks that resolved the conflict in Northern Syria. Republicans and Democrats were pressing Trump for stepped up military action there. But the president used a combination of negotiations, sanctions, and incentives to avert hostilities.

NEWSFEED WEDNESDAY: Impeachment is about Stopping Trump’s Success on Border, too

J Robert Smith

  • Oct. 16, 2019

How effective it is being in terms of both deterring migrants and stopping crossings is tough to calculate. One thing that is clear is that the erection of the barrier is coinciding with a sharp decline in apprehensions, although correlation does not necessarily equate to causation. In August, there were 3,326 apprehensions in the San Diego sector, down from 6,880 in March and 5,884 in May.

That reflects a border-wide trend that has seen apprehensions along the border as a whole drop almost 65 percent since May, as part of a multi-faceted strategy from the administration that has included not only barrier construction, but also agreements such as the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) — by which tens of thousands of migrants have been returned to Mexico while they await their immigration hearings.

NEWSFEED TUESDAY: Syria: Warmongering Democrats?

Democrats in Congress are vowing to quickly slap new sanctions on Ankara and formally oppose President Trump’s decision to pull U.S. troops from northern Syria following Turkey’s military offensive against Kurdish forces loyal to the United States.

— The Hill, October 14, 2019

QUICK TAKE

We expect neocons to warmonger. The likes of Bill Kristol. They’ve never met a conflict they didn’t like – or weren’t anxious to throw American soldiers into. But Democrats? Politics does make for strange bedfellows. It is 2019, though, and strange bedfellows seem to be the norm in Washington.

NEWSFEED MONDAY: Will Senate RINOs Vote to Remove Trump?

J Robert Smith

  • Oct. 14, 2019

What is impeachment for? Seems like a simple question. Constitutionally speaking, it also appears to have a simple answer: to cite and remove from power a president guilty of wrongdoing.

Aye, there’s the rub. What sort of wrongdoing warrants removal from power?

There is rage over Trump’s decision. It is rage over a policy choice, not over high crimes and misdemeanors. Only the most blindly angry can doubt the lawfulness of the commander-in-chief’s movement of U.S. soldiers, even though it rendered inevitable the Turks’ rout of the Kurds.
