President

Debates: Last October, the Commission on Presidential Debates announced the entire series schedule for both the presidential and vice-presidential forums and the details have only slightly changed. Because of the COVID crowd restrictions, the University of Notre Dame declined to host the first forum. It has been re-located to Case Western University in Cleveland and remains scheduled for Tuesday, September 29th. The lone Vice-Presidential debate then follows on Wednesday, October 7th at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. We return to the presidential debate series on Thursday, October 15th, tabbed for the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami that will feature a town hall format. The finale occurs a week later on October 22nd from Belmont University in Nashville.

I Know You Are, But What Am I?

Perhaps the least debatable statement one can make about the 2020 campaign is that it is going to be unusual. Duh. In a year characterized by riots, a pandemic, and an invasion of rabid honey badgers, it is almost inevitable the election will be different.

Democratic leaders and their sycophantic cadre of flying monkeys in the media are circulating the message that, whatever happens, they will not concede. The Hildebeast, notably, has said Biden should not concede. The careful reader might notice that the Democrats have been promoting the fear that Trump will not concede, even if he loses, but have no problem doing that very thing. In 2000, the Democrats set the standard for not accepting election results. Al Gore fought until, literally, there were no legal options remaining. The key issue was Florida, where Gore never led a single vote count. Ultimately, fewer than 700 votes in Florida determined the winner. Which reminds us how important it is to make sure there is no fraudulent voting, or inaccurate counts.

Must We Fight Cancel Culture with Cancel Culture?

This article originally appeared at www.americanthinker.com.

As of August, 2020, we Americans are embroiled in an intensifying cold civil war. Democrats and the left are the aggressors. Cancel culture is a chief weapon. It’s not being employed wholesale – yet – but is being selectively used as a means of instilling fear in the citizenry. Cancel culture, in other words, is a terror weapon.

As morally repugnant as cancel culture is, in war the question is invariably asked: Must we fight fire with fire? Must we cancel the left and its allies to stop their Jacobin terror? It’s a legitimate question.

“In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity”

Sun-Tzu, A Arte da Guerra, goodreads

[snip] They think the American people are weak and soft and submissive. But no, the American people are strong and proud, and they will not allow our country, and all of its values, history, and culture, to be taken from them.

President Trump, Independence Day Speech

THE TAKE

Did Donald Trump’s stirring speech at Mt. Rushmore signal the end of patriots’ Summer of Paralysis? For paralysis right-thinking Americans have suffered. Until Independence Day, the president seemed oddly subdued too.

Elections 2020: Trump and Biden in a Dead Heat in Michigan?

Focus: President

Michigan: After being quiet most of the presidential election cycle, the Trafalgar Group, the only pollster to correctly project the Great Lakes states in the 2016 election, released new data for Michigan, and again they are cutting against the polling grain. According to their latest political research study (6/16-18; 1,101 MI likely voters), Trafalgar projects former Vice President Joe Biden to hold only a one-point 46-45% lead over President Trump, which is almost identical to Change Research’s (6/12-14; 353 MI likely voters) 47-45% published polling margin.

CNN’s Lame Push Poll: Boosting Biden and Voter Suppression

“The sample contains a whopping 250 respondent over-sample of black, non-Hispanic adults.”

It has been several cycles since neutral political observers could look at any of the polling from major media outlets with confidence of their accuracy. Mainstream media uses polling as a way to mold public opinion as much as reflect it. The better, and more neutral independent polling organizations care a bit more about their reputations because they have clients from the corporate and not-for-profit world. Most contemporary media organizations are just pushing an agenda. The latest example comes from CNN. They are actively attempting to mold public opinion, fire-up the Democratic base, and discourage Republicans.

Biden Looks Moderate Only Next to the Clown Car of Candidates He Ran Against

The Democratic Party has, indisputably, grown more liberal/socialist over the few years. Surveys have shown that 75% of Democratic voters would vote for a socialist. Today, a fair number of Democratic Party leaders are acknowledged socialists, support socialist policies, or try to put a different spin on things by claiming to be “Democratic” Socialists.

That, of course, is a contradiction in terms. Being a Democratic Socialist makes as much sense as saying you support free slavery or non-lethal capital punishment. Socialism, by definition, reduces freedom. That’s the point, and many Democrats are now openly comfortable with it.

Elections 2020: Is Lindsey Graham in Trouble in SC?

On Monday, we focus on governors’ races.

Focus: Senate

Alabama: Apparently, former US Attorney General and Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions realizes he is not getting back in President Trump’s good graces after the latter man reiterated his strong support for retired Auburn University head football coach Tommy Tuberville in the upcoming Republican Senate runoff election scheduled for July 14th. Mr. Sessions tweeted a response to President Trump that the law required his recusal from the Mueller investigation and that he (Trump) should be grateful the rule of law was preserved; action, Sessions contended, principally responsible for the President being exonerated in the Russia investigation.

Elections 2020: Trump Trails Biden in Arizona

Sunday, join us for a look at U.S. House and Senate races.

Focus: President

Arizona Poll: In the middle of May, OH Predictive Insights (5/9-11; 600 AZ likely general election voters) released their Arizona statewide survey that received considerable attention in the political pundit community due to the Grand Canyon State’s importance in the presidential campaign. With its 11 electoral votes, Arizona is a must-win state for the Trump campaign. The OH poll found former Vice President Biden leading 50-43%, his largest margin to date, but little in the way of analysis accompanied the poll release.

Elections 2020: Trump Leads Early in Pennsylvania?

We continue are weekend series looking at this year’s election contests. Saturday, U.S. House and Senate races. Sunday, governorships.

Focus: President

Rep. Justin Amash: Michigan Rep. Justin Amash (L-Cascade Township/Grand Rapids) decided not to seek the Libertarian Party presidential nomination after filing an exploratory committee to assess his chances. Rep. Amash cited the COVID-19 precautions that make personal campaigning difficult as one reason not to continue along the presidential path. He says he is committed to helping build the national Libertarian Party, however.

Arizona: Regular Arizona pollster OH Predictive Insights (5/9-11; 600 AZ likely voters) finds former Vice President Joe Biden putting some distance between he and President Trump, 50-43%, in what is a must-win state for the Republican incumbent. The poll itself is not yet in the public domain, therefore making it difficult to analyze the nuances.

Hodas Polls: The Hodas & Associates survey research firm went into the field to test the swing Great Lakes/Mid-Atlantic states and produced surprisingly inconsistent data. Conducting surveys among sampling universes of 600 likely general election voters in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin in early May, Hodas finds the results very different than the three close wins Donald Trump recorded in these places four years ago. While former Vice President Joe Biden posts wide leads in Wisconsin (51-42%) and Michigan (50-42%), he surprisingly trails President Trump in Pennsylvania (46-50%).
