NEWSFEED WEDNESDAY: Impeachment is about Stopping Trump’s Success on Border, too

How effective it is being in terms of both deterring migrants and stopping crossings is tough to calculate. One thing that is clear is that the erection of the barrier is coinciding with a sharp decline in apprehensions, although correlation does not necessarily equate to causation. In August, there were 3,326 apprehensions in the San Diego sector, down from 6,880 in March and 5,884 in May.

That reflects a border-wide trend that has seen apprehensions along the border as a whole drop almost 65 percent since May, as part of a multi-faceted strategy from the administration that has included not only barrier construction, but also agreements such as the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) — by which tens of thousands of migrants have been returned to Mexico while they await their immigration hearings.

NEWSFEED TUESDAY: Syria: Warmongering Democrats?

J Robert Smith

Democrats in Congress are vowing to quickly slap new sanctions on Ankara and formally oppose President Trump’s decision to pull U.S. troops from northern Syria following Turkey’s military offensive against Kurdish forces loyal to the United States.

— The Hill, October 14, 2019

QUICK TAKE

We expect neocons to warmonger. The likes of Bill Kristol. They’ve never met a conflict they didn’t like – or weren’t anxious to throw American soldiers into. But Democrats? Politics does make for strange bedfellows. It is 2019, though, and strange bedfellows seem to be the norm in Washington.

NEWSFEED MONDAY: Will Senate RINOs Vote to Remove Trump?

J Robert Smith

What is impeachment for? Seems like a simple question. Constitutionally speaking, it also appears to have a simple answer: to cite and remove from power a president guilty of wrongdoing.

Aye, there’s the rub. What sort of wrongdoing warrants removal from power?

There is rage over Trump’s decision. It is rage over a policy choice, not over high crimes and misdemeanors. Only the most blindly angry can doubt the lawfulness of the commander-in-chief’s movement of U.S. soldiers, even though it rendered inevitable the Turks’ rout of the Kurds.

NEWSFEED WEEKEND: Will Democrats & the Deep State Come for You?

The X-Files once had a tagline for describing administrative state nefariousness: Deceive, Inveigle, Obfuscate. Clearly, that is the mantra for the parts of the intelligence community that are still beholden to Obama’s bewitching ideological spell (as well as the Clinton family’s implied threats against any who dare to oppose their unjust claim to power).

Quit Doing What We’re Doing!

We’ve discussed in these pages that one way to understand Democratic strategies is by looking at the concept of “projection.” Discussed here, projection, although there is a lot more to it, is a process by which people tend to see qualities, both good and bad, in others that may not be accurate and may also be present in themselves. Put another way, the other guy always looks like he is guilty of whatever you are.

You think your kid is being illogical, when maybe you are; you think your wife is irritable, but actually you are; you think Chuck Schumer is an honorable and principled person, but… wait a minute. Bad example. No one ever thinks that.

NEWSFEED THURSDAY: The Rise of Elizabeth Warren (Yeah, She’s Fatally Flawed)

Senator Elizabeth Warren’s slow but steady rise through the 2020 ranks has officially put her at the top of the pack—albeit by a very small margin. The Massachusetts lawmaker officially overtook former Vice President Joe Biden Tuesday in RealClearPolitics’ 2020 polling average, polling at 26.6% as compared with Biden’s 26.4%. Warren is also notably the only candidate whose polling has steadily gone up throughout the primary, while Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders, who holds a 14.6% polling average, have seen their popularity fluctuate and go down from their starting highs.

NEWSFEED WEDNESDAY: Will the Democrats Soft Coup Attempt Wreck the Nation?

WASHINGTON — The White House declared war on the House impeachment inquiry on Tuesday, announcing that it would not cooperate with what it called an illegitimate effort “to overturn the results of the 2016 election” and setting the stage for a constitutional clash with far-reaching consequences.

— MSN News, October 8, 2019

There is a story, often told, that upon exiting the Constitutional Convention Benjamin Franklin was approached by a group of citizens asking what sort of government the delegates had created. His answer was: “A republic, if you can keep it.”

NEWSFEED TUESDAY: Hillary’s Lead Trial Balloon

J Robert Smith

  • Oct. 8, 2019
  • 3 min read

In the early morning hours after Election Day 2016, Hillary Clinton conceded gracefully, asking America to “give Trump a chance.” That didn’t last long. Months afterward, she came out swinging against the president. Last week, she called him an “illegitimate president.” On Monday, she claimed he violated his oath of office by pulling U.S. troops back in Syria.

Clinton may just be trying to increase her visibility to sell her latest book, but she may also be positioning herself to enter the 2020 Democratic presidential race if former Vice President Joe Biden falters — or should I say, continues to falter.

NEWSFEED MONDAY: The Whistleblower Scam or Kavanaughing Trump

J Robert Smith

Attorney Mark Zaid confirmed to CNN that he and other lawyers on his team are now representing the second person, who the lawyer said works in the intelligence community, has first-hand knowledge that supports claims made by the first whistleblower and has spoken to the intelligence community’s inspector general.

— CNN, October 6, 2019

QUICK TAKE

A second whistleblower? From the intel community, no less, not unlike the first? Hmm… Do you see the pattern? It’s right from the Democrats’ Brett Kavanaugh playbook.

NEWSFEED WEEKEND: Democrats’ Path to Defeat in 2020

J Robert Smith

The gamble of a Biden nomination, then, is a big one. It’s a bet on whether Americans really do want a return to the political establishment when signs here and around the world seem to be pointing in the opposite direction, empowering both far-right strong men and socialists as center-left and center-right parties stumble. Biden’s chances in a general election also hinge whether he can muster support from enough Obama-loyal, reliable primary voters to counteract a lack of enthusiasm among younger and more progressive segments of the electorate, who won’t back him with nearly the same vim as they would Elizabeth Warren or (especially) Bernie Sanders. Did the mythical white working class voters that Biden is supposed to appeal to really just want to vote for another white guy (as cynical pundits have claimed) or did they too want to drain the swamp?
